Ministry of Energy and EDAMA Conclude Workshop on Women’s Empowerment in the Energy Sector


On Monday, 20 October 2025, the closing session of the workshop series “She Leads – From Challenges to Change” was held in Amman. The series was implemented through a partnership between the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Jordanian-German Energy Sector Partnership, and EDAMA for Energy, Water, and Environment, with the aim of enhancing women’s roles and empowering them in this vital sector.

The closing workshop was held under the patronage of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and brought together a distinguished group of experts and stakeholders from both the public and private sectors. The event provided an opportunity to exchange experiences and showcase success stories that highlighted women’s capacity to actively participate in driving change and shaping the future.

During the opening, Eng. Lina Mubeiden, Director of the Energy Efficiency and Climate Change Directorate and representative of the Secretary-General, emphasized that women are capable of leading change and shaping the future. She noted that women’s empowerment is closely linked to the national economic modernization vision.

She added that the Ministry is committed to empowering women and increasing their participation in decision-making positions, contributing to building a more inclusive and sustainable energy sector in cooperation with local and international partners.

For his part, Mr. Guido Kemmerling, Deputy German Ambassador to Jordan, stated that the German Embassy is working closely with partners to achieve tangible change in the energy sector by supporting the energy transition and enhancing women’s inclusion in the field. He highlighted the strong partnership between the Jordanian government and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in raising women’s participation in the energy sector.

Samer Judeh, Vice Chairman of EDAMA’s Board of Directors, emphasized that the “She Leads” initiative serves as an inspiring model for women’s empowerment, stressing that change is achieved not through individual efforts, but through collective action and institutional collaboration. He noted that global indicators for women’s participation in various sectors vary, but Jordan has made notable progress in increasing women’s participation and driving meaningful change.

Carolin Krolik, Co-Leader of the Gender Task Force, German Energy Agency (dena) on behalf of the Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE), noted that gender inclusion is fundamental in both the public and private sectors. She expressed appreciation for the practical steps taken to demonstrate commitment to women’s participation in economic and energy development. She added that the initiative aims to promote the exchange of roles and experiences and provide women with broader opportunities, noting that recent years have seen improvements in women’s leadership participation indicators.

Dr. Irina Höhna, Program Director of the Jordanian-German Partnership, highlighted that women have proven their ability to be active partners in decision-making. She emphasized that joint initiatives contribute to increasing women’s participation in shaping events and building more sustainable and inclusive communities. Huna also underscored the importance of efforts to enhance women’s participation across various energy fields, noting that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources places great importance on empowering women and increasing their presence in decision-making roles to build a balanced and sustainable energy sector.

Finally, Rasha Abu Marrar, Head of the Ministry’s Women Empowerment Team, affirmed the team’s role in promoting women’s participation in the energy sector through practical initiatives that open new pathways for leadership and research opportunities.
