On Monday, May 20, 2024, EDAMA Association for Energy, Water, and Environment launched a training program in organic agriculture and organic composting as part of the “Green Links” project, funded by the European Union, in partnership with the Jordan Business Development Center (BDC) and the Climate Action Network-Jordan (CAN), and supported by Bank al Etihad.
This program is part of the “Green Links” project, which aims to enhance sustainable resource management through green innovations in Azraq and Zarqa cities in Jordan. The main objective of the project is to build a sustainable ecosystem based on technological solutions and to promote local community involvement in the green economy.
The program seeks to achieve several goals, including:
- Building a robust and self-sustaining system based on optimal resource use and waste reduction.
- Raising awareness about the importance of organic farming and composting as sustainable agricultural methods for environmental protection.
- Providing training opportunities for underserved Syrians and Jordanians, including both women and men, to enhance their skills and empower them economically.
- Creating sustainable job opportunities in organic agriculture and compost production.
The first training sessions for the first phase of the project were held in Azraq on Monday, May 20, and similar training sessions will follow in Zarqa. Each training course will last for four days, where participants will receive both theoretical and practical lessons. Outstanding participants will be selected to take part in the second phase of the project, which involves practical applications at organic compost production sites and fully converted organic farms, that are to be established in Azraq.
This project represents an effective step toward achieving sustainable development goals and building environmentally conscious and sustainable communities. The program aims to enhance environmental awareness and provide training and job opportunities in organic farming and compost production. Through these efforts, the program contributes to environmental protection and improving the quality of life for individuals in local communities.
