On Monday, January 19, 2025, EDAMA Association for Energy, Water, and Environment, the executive arm of the National Sector Skills Council for Water and Energy (WE Skill), in collaboration with the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission, successfully organized the event titled “From Synergy to Sustainability: The Next Chapter of WE Skill.”
The event was held under the project “Capacity Building and Institutionalization of the National Sector Skills Council for the Water and Energy Sectors,” funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in partnership with the Government of Canada and supported by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) within the Support to Jordan Educational Institutions in Offering Labour Market Oriented Vocational Training (MOVE-HET II) program.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Duraid Mahasneh, Chairman of EDAMA, emphasized on the initiative’s importance as a pivotal step toward strengthening the skills development ecosystems in the water and energy sectors. Abdul-Mahdi Al-Bataineh, Chairman of the WE Skill Council, added that the Council’s current vision and objectives align with the Economic Modernization Vision for the education sector and the engagement of the private sector. Prof. Dr. Yousef Al‑Abdallat, Assistant President of the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission (AQAC), emphasized the importance of the recent restructuring step and the unification of all educational frameworks under one umbrella, noting its significance in strengthening governance and enhancing sectoral coordination.
The event officially introduced the Sector Skills Council for Water and Energy (WE Skill) and fostered engagement with a diverse group of key stakeholders. Discussions focused on building a shared understanding of priority skills needs in the water and energy sectors, while showcasing the Council’s role in planning, alignment, validation, and enhancing the image of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) within both sectors.
Strategic objectives identified through sector-specific labor market research were addressed, with a focus on supporting the alignment of training outputs with evolving workforce demands. A central theme of the discussions was ensuring the sustainability of the national platform for water and energy skills development, while exploring opportunities for cooperation and partnerships.
The event concluded with EDAMA reaffirming its commitment to advancing national partnerships that strengthen skills development in the water and energy sectors and to enhancing TVET in line with labor market needs ensuring sustainable, long-term impact through the Council and its associated national platform.
