EDAMA Association Coordinates Workshop for Women Empowerment in the Energy Sector


Amman, Jordan – November 25, 2024 – In a remarkable step towards enhancing the inclusion of women in Jordan’s energy sector, EDAMA Association for Energy, Water, and Environment, in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Jordanian-German Energy Partnership, hosted an exceptional workshop titled “Women in the Energy Sector.” This event served as a dynamic platform for constructive dialogue, advanced innovation, and strategic collaboration, all aimed at promoting gender equality and empowering women in the sector.

The workshop was opened with a welcoming remark by Eng. Yaacoub Marar, Director of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Directorate at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, who emphasized Jordan’s unwavering commitment to increasing women’s participation in the energy sector as part of the country’s broader goals for sustainable development and energy transformation.

The workshop also featured a keynote address by Mr. Andreas Reisman, Division for North Africa, the Near and Middle East, German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action who praised Jordan’s efforts to integrate women into the energy sector through comprehensive policies. He underscored the significance of international cooperation and gender diversity in achieving global goals within the energy sector.

 

Mr. Samer Joudeh, EDAMA Vice Chairman, delivered an inspiring speech, highlighting the crucial and transformative role that women play in driving fundamental change within the sector. He highlighted the importance of empowering women to take leadership positions and actively contribute to shaping the future of the energy sector.

EDAMA Association, in its role, coordinated interactive sessions and discussions, presenting a comprehensive interactive presentation of the results from a survey conducted on the energy sector in Jordan. The presentation highlighted the gaps and challenges women face in the sector, from both internal and external perspectives. This was followed by in-depth discussions on possible actions and recommendations that could lead to real and positive change.

The event also included a series of interactive discussions, where participants worked in thematic groups, defining actionable strategies and innovative solutions to enhance gender equality and empower women within the sector. Through interactive voting, a simplified action plan was developed, followed by extensive discussions on the proposed recommendations aimed at creating meaningful change in the sector. The workshop underscored the importance of joint efforts across all sectors to achieve a future characterized by gender equality in the energy sector.
