EDAMA Association Participates in Syrian-Jordanian Meetings to Discuss Joint Energy Sector Cooperation

On Wednesday, July 2, 2025, EDAMA Association for Energy, Water, and Environment took part in an official meeting held at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. The meeting brought together Jordan’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources with his Syrian counterpart, Eng. Mohammad Al-Bashir, and the accompanying Syrian delegation. The meeting aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, with a focus on government support, financing mechanisms, and collaboration between the public and private sectors.

During the discussions, both sides agreed to form specialized technical teams to coordinate reciprocal visits aimed at assessing the energy sector on the ground in Syria—particularly in the fields of electricity, oil, natural gas, and renewable energy—as a step toward identifying needs and activating areas of cooperation.

The meetings included a series of technical sessions attended by representatives of Jordanian government bodies and private sector companies. Discussions focused on sharing Jordan’s experience in regulating and distributing electricity, as well as in renewable energy and oil and gas sectors. The Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission, along with Jordanian electricity distribution companies, presented a detailed overview of Jordan’s experience in privatizing and regulating electricity distribution, in addition to exploring possible technical support for the Syrian side.

A broader meeting also brought together the Syrian delegation and Jordanian renewable energy companies to explore opportunities for cooperation and investment in this vital sector. The discussion included legislative and regulatory frameworks for investing in Syria’s energy market. Jordanian companies expressed their readiness to enter into joint investment projects in this area.

Representatives of Jordan’s industrial sector also shared their experience in manufacturing components for renewable energy projects and confirmed their full readiness to operate in the Syrian market.

In a joint press briefing with the Syrian Minister, Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Eng. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy and water, in a manner that serves the mutual interests of both countries and promotes security and stability across the region.
