Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD)’s Princess Basma Community Center goes solar with Yellow Door Energy’s Project Daw

February 12, 2025, Amman, Jordan: The Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD)’s Princess Basma Community Center in Mafraq, Jordan, celebrated the successful commissioning of a solar plant thanks to Project Daw, a CSR initiative funded by Actis Acts and Yellow Door Energy.

This is the second phase of the project, which provides a solar PV system, free of charge, to the Princess Basma Community Center in Mafraq. Phase 1 entailed the training of 20 youths in Mafraq on the design, installation and operation and maintenance of solar PV plants. The youths also participated in Phase 2, where they helped to install the solar panels, under the supervision of Yellow Door Energy engineers.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from JOHUD, Yellow Door Energy, EDAMA Association for Water, Energy, and Environment, ASTRACO Contracting Co, and the youths who participated in the training program.

Qais Tarawneh, Director of Operational Affairs at JOHUD, shared: “This partnership extends beyond the installation of solar panels; it empowers our youth by providing practical skills and creating pathways to sustainable job opportunities. Project Daw demonstrates our commitment to sustainability and community empowerment. Furthermore, it aligns with JOHUD’s strategic approach to promoting sustainability and environmental awareness throughout our programs. We take pride in seeing our community center evolve into a greener space that also serves as a hub for skill development in renewable energy.”

Eng. Azmi Sallam, VP of Project Management at Yellow Door Energy, commented: “Project DAW is Yellow Door Energy’s first official CSR initiative, and we are humbled to start this meaningful project in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. I’m excited to see the completion of the project by constructing the solar power plant for Princess Basma Community Center and providing practical training skills for our trainees. As the leading solar developer in the Kingdom, we have a responsibility and a duty to give back to the communities in which we operate.”

Imaad Zureikat, General Manager at EDAMA Association for Water, Energy, and Environment, stated: “With the completion of Project Daw, we are proud to have not only equipped young Jordanians with valuable skills in solar PV but also contributed to the sustainability of local communities.”

Project Daw aims to improve job opportunities for youths between 18-24 years of age, specifically females. The initiative is funded by Actis Acts, a foundation by global sustainable infrastructure investor Actis, which supports charitable activities that create a positive and sustainable impact on communities. Actis is a majority shareholder of Yellow Door Energy, and the project addresses the youth employment challenge in Jordan, where Yellow Door Energy has over 80 megawatts of operating solar projects. This project demonstrates Yellow Door Energy’s commitment to support local communities where it operates, advancing the Just Energy Transition.
