Potential Incentives by (ASEZA) to Encourage Solid Waste Reduction in Hotels

On September 9th, 2018 EDAMA held an event entitled “The potential incentives proposed by Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) for the hotel industry in Aqaba to encourage solid waste reduction”.

The event inaugurated a rich discussion between Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) and the concerned parties from the private sector in Aqaba such as; five, four and three-star hotels.
The private sector in Aqaba communicated the importance of reassessing the calculation method of the waste being produced in the Tourism Sector. The method considers the total area of hotels rather than the weight of the waste being produced. The revaluation process  is meant to create a new incentive scheme.

Decision makers from ASEZA, Hotels in Aqaba, the Ministry of Environment in Jordan, and finally a representative on behalf of the United Nations Environment Program participated in this event.
